Explore Kintamani: A Must-Visit Destination in Bali
Why Visit Kintamani?
Just like Bedugul, Uluwatu Temple, and Tanah Lot, Kintamani is a top choice for travelers in Bali.
What makes Kintamani so captivating?
It’s simple: the breathtaking views. Furthermore, here, you can take in the dramatic scenery of Mount Batur, an active volcano, alongside the tranquil waters of Lake Batur. Therefore, this combination of fiery peaks and calming lakeside is a spectacle not to be missed.
What Sets Kintamani Apart?
While Bali boasts several spots to enjoy volcanic landscapes and lakes, Kintamani ranks among the most visited. Its stunning vistas draw crowds worldwide, making it a highlight of any Bali adventure.
Explore Ancient Temples:
Besides its natural beauty, Kintamani is also home to the revered Pura Ulun Danu Batur. Situated on the caldera’s edge, this temple is one of Bali’s nine key temples and offers a spiritual counterpart to the area’s natural charms.
While there are several Ulun Danu temples in Bali, two stand out:
- Ulun Danu Batur Temple in Kintamani.
- Pura Ulun Danu Temple at Lake Beratan in Bedugul.
These temples are not just sacred places of worship but also serve as stunning backdrops for photography and contemplation.

Discover Kintamani, Bali
Kintamani, located in the Bangli Regency, is not just a single village but a district composed of several charming villages such as Kedisan, Songan, Abung, and Toya Bungkah.
Notably, three villages—Batur, Penelokan, and Kintamani—are perched 1,500 meters above sea level. This high elevation gives Kintamani its cooler climate, with average daytime temperatures around 23 degrees Celsius (73 degrees Fahrenheit), making it perfect for agriculture.
Here, local farmers cultivate various vegetables, including carrots, tomatoes, and shallots. The pristine Lake Batur, nestled at the volcano’s base, also supports aquaculture, famously for Tilapia fish.
Navigating to Kintamani
Most travelers heading to Kintamani start their journey from central Bali, home to other popular sites like the Ubud attractions. Others may travel from the southern beaches or northern spots like Lovina Beach in Buleleng.

The Best Time to Visit Kintamani
- Morning Views: Wondering when to visit Kintamani for the best experience? Aim for the morning! In the afternoon, roughly 2 p.m., the area often becomes shrouded in fog. Plus, you might encounter drizzles starting at noon, which can obscure the stunning views of Mount Batur and Lake Batur.
- Traveling from Kuta: If you’re staying near Kuta Beach, plan to leave for Kintamani no later than 10 a.m. to avoid the midday fog. The drive typically takes about two hours, giving you plenty of time to enjoy the morning clarity.
