Exploring Bali often means indulging in its picturesque beach resorts, especially those boasting pristine white sands in the southern part of the island. Renowned beaches like Kuta, Pandawa, Legian, Jimbaran, and Tanjung Benoa are often the highlights for many. However, if you’re a seasoned Bali visitor looking for an alternative coastal gem, let me guide you to Berawa Beach.

Why Choose Berawa Beach?

Berawa Beach Bali
Berawa Beach Bali

Berawa Beach is not just another Bali beach; it’s a haven for water sports enthusiasts. Its robust currents and impressive waves create the perfect conditions for surfing and kite surfing. Berawa Beach’s surf will challenge and thrill you if you’re seeking adrenaline.

As you stroll along the beach, you’ll notice its distinctive black sand and the vast expanse of the Indian Ocean. The beach transforms as the day ends, offering a stunning sunset that paints the sky in hues of gold and crimson.

While Berawa might not boast the extensive facilities found at more commercial beaches like Kuta, it offers a more serene and intimate atmosphere. Several vendors along the shore sell refreshing beverages and local snacks, ensuring you stay energized.

Is Berawa Beach Right for You?

If the idea of surfing against stunning sunsets and sipping cold drinks by the ocean appeals to you, Berawa Beach is calling your name. However, if you’re after a different kind of Bali experience, exploring other beaches like the popular Melasti Beach Ungasan might suit your taste better.

Berawa Beach is quickly becoming the go-to spot for surfers in Bali. Its less crowded shores offer a more relaxed surfing experience than places like Legian or Batu Belig Beach in Kerobokan.

The northern part of the beach, dotted with trees and bushes, is particularly favored for its excellent surf breaks. While I noticed several spots renting out surfboards, the rates and terms might vary, so it’s worth checking on-site. For kite-surfing aficionados, while on-site rentals might be scarce, the sport’s popularity means you can easily find equipment to rent from nearby locations.

Check out this guide to surfing in Bali for the best surf spots and rental tips.

Is Berawa Beach Suitable for Children?

Berawa Beach is known for its prominent waves and strong ocean currents, making it less than ideal for beginner swimmers, particularly young children.

If you’re planning a family vacation in Bali and looking for a child-friendly beach, consider visiting Jimbaran Beach, Mengiat Beach in Nusa Dua, Pandawa Beach, Sanur Beach, or the beaches of Tanjung Benoa. These locations offer gentler waters that are more suitable for children. Explore our comprehensive guides on family-friendly beaches in Bali, such as Jimbaran Beach and Pandawa Beach.

Tanjung Benoa offers various water sports activities. For more information on the available games and their prices, see Game Choices & Tanjung Benoa Water Sports Bali Prices.

Relaxing at Berawa Beach

If surfing isn’t your forte, you might wonder what Berawa Beach offers. Many visitors, including myself, enjoy lounging on the beach, basking in the sun, and waiting for the breathtaking sunset. Berawa Beach stretches over a kilometer and is lined with sunbeds and large umbrellas for comfort.

While I wasn’t charged for using a sunbed during my visit — likely because I purchased drinks — the usual rental fee is IDR 50,000 for a pair, which you can use all day. If you plan to snack while relaxing, it’s wise to bring your own, as the options on the beach are limited.

Finns Beach Club Bali

Finns Beach Club is one of the most popular spots at Berawa Beach. It is known for its relaxed atmosphere and incredible ocean views. The club offers various facilities to enhance your beach experience, including a bar serving a wide range of drinks, a comfortable lounge area, and music to boost the ambiance.

At Finns Beach Club, you can relax while enjoying your favorite drink and watching the exciting kite surfing activities. With its strategic location facing the sea, you can enjoy the stunning sunset views while lounging in the club. Finns Beach Club provides an unforgettable experience for those looking for an excellent hangout spot at Berawa Beach.

Visitors are recommended to check the official website or social media of Finns Beach Club for the latest information about events, facilities, and services offered, ensuring an optimal visiting experience.

Bali’s Berawa Beach Location

Nestled on Jalan Pantai Berawa in Desa Tibubeneng, Kecamatan Kuta Utara, Kabupaten Badung, Berawa Beach is a gem often associated with Canggu’s more renowned beaches.

Its proximity to Batu Bolong and Echo Beach in Canggu makes it a notable part of the area’s coastal allure. This beach isn’t just a geographical neighbor to famous spots; it’s part of the vibrant tapestry that makes Canggu a sought-after destination.

Adjacent to Berawa, the charming Kayu Putih Beach, known for its picturesque wooden bridge, is a hotspot for the youthful and the young-at-heart. The beach is conveniently close to Seminyak’s tourist spots, a mere half-hour drive from Batubelig Beach. Use this Google Map link for easy navigation to Berawa Beach.

Transportation Options

Getting to Berawa Beach offers flexibility, with private vehicles being popular.

  • Scooter Hire: In Bali, you can rent motorbikes or cars at reasonable rates, ranging from IDR 100,000 to IDR 250,000 per 24 hours for motorbikes.
  • Car Hire: Car rental rates vary, but options like a Toyota Avanza without a driver are available for around IDR 350,000. For those less acquainted with Canggu’s roads or preferring to avoid the hassle of traffic, consider hiring a car with a driver and fuel included for a relaxed journey.

Vehicle Parking Area

Berawa Beach offers several parking areas for cars and motorcycles. Car parking is available at Parkiran Dewata, east of Finns Beach Club, and Atlas Beach Fest Parking Area on the north side. If you enter through this road, you can park your car here.

The area near the end of Jalan Pantai Berawa for motorcycles provides easy access to the beach at no cost, though it’s less suitable for cars. It’s important to note that parking in busy areas may require extra effort to retrieve your vehicle, especially motorcycles.

Alternatively, parking your vehicle further from the beach can avoid these difficulties. To make your visit to Berawa Beach more enjoyable, ensure you choose a parking location that best suits your needs and comfort.

Entrance Ticket to Berawa Canggu Beach

Many Bali attractions charge an entrance fee, but Berawa Beach remains accessible. If you’re searching for affordable experiences in Bali, Berawa Beach is an excellent choice.

Best Time to Visit

For an optimal experience, visit in the evening before sunset, when the blackish-grey sand cools. Avoid December to February, when the rainy season and west winds can bring debris to the shores.
